The Platform will help cities better understand what is happening on their streets in near real-time to support policy and growth

SenSen Networks (ASX: SNS), a global leader in Live Awareness for smart cities, and Turnstone Data, a Parking Insights platform, today announced a strategic partnership to deliver dynamic parking intelligence to municipalities across North America.

The curb is one of the most valuable and least understood assets a city owns. Every day, millions of vehicles arrive, park, move, and leave, and up to this point, this continuous activity has remained largely invisible to the governments tasked with understanding and managing it.

The partnership combines SenSen’s Live Awareness data fusion capabilities with Turnstone’s parking inventory and behavior prediction capabilities to give municipal teams a unified view of curb activity, compliance, and demand with a mixture of real-time and daily updates.

The result, Dynamic Parking Intelligence, gives decision makers, policy creators and advocates a clearer understanding of how each block, zone, and corridor is performing. The result gives cities the evidence they  need to make confident, defensible decisions about the curb that can support critical policy and future curb asset optimisation and growth.

The partnership arose from early results seen in several North American cities where the companies’ capabilities were applied. One North American city discovered over 500 poorly utilised parking machines, and were able to introduce and test parking rates that encouraged turnover, maximizing efficiency and helping the curb deliver what it should. Another North American city found that some of its neighborhoods had over 30% noncompliance, a fact they were unaware of until the intelligence revealed it. As a result, the city saw a 10.2% citywide drop in non-compliance following data-driven decisions around resource allocation, specifically with their patrol beats.

“There’s a remarkable amount of intelligence locked inside the everyday operation of a city’s parking program and until now much of this has been untapped,” said Ben Pisch, VP of Clients and Markets, North America at SenSen. “What we’ve built with Turnstone is a way to bring that intelligence to the surface to help cities make smarter decisions. The conversation can now change to “Here’s what is happening, and here’s what to do about it.’”

“Cities have always known the curb is valuable. What they haven’t had is a way to see it clearly,” said Cole Jaillet, CEO, Turnstone. “This partnership gives them that view. We are helping cities discover remarkable things and, together with SenSen, are able to deliver actionable insights to city decision makers that have historically been out of reach.  Even better, this joint solution is built to work alongside the systems cities already have in place, with no disruption to existing operations.”
